Aspire News: July 2022
Volunteer With Us!

Aspire Needs YOUR Help!

In Dallas today, thousands of adults are not able to reach their potential due to their limited ability to speak, read, and write in English. Aspire is looking for ESL teaching volunteers at Owenwood Farm & Neighbor Space in East Dallas, as well as volunteers to teach GED preparation classes online. We welcome both experienced and novice instructors. Aspire students have a deep desire to improve and our volunteers receive the joy of experiencing personal growth while watching their students grow. If you have not taught adults, we will help you gain the skills to be an effective instructor. We provide the curriculum, training, and support. Join us as we work together to help make a lasting mark in people’s lives. Learn more and apply at www.aspiretolearn.org/volunteer.

Time to Schedule Your Appointment for Fall Registration!

The Fall registration begins August 1 and runs through August 31. If you are interested and have not already done so, click here and fill out the Student Interest Form. You will be contacted to set an appointment for you to come in and register for classes.

We provide ESL classes in person at Owenwood Farm and Neighbor Space in East Dallas, as well as GED preparation, adult basic education, and early childhood education and family literacy classes online.

In-person registration will be held at Owenwood Farm and Neighbor Space, 1451 John West Road, Dallas, TX 75228.

We look forward to seeing you and getting the Fall semester started on September 8!

LEGACY OF LITERACY BREAKFAST SPONSORSHIP AND TICKET PURCHASE ARE NOW AVAILABLE!

Since 2009, the annual Legacy of Literacy breakfast has recognized our supporters' hard work and determination. Past keynote speakers include Victoria Neave, attorney and Texas State Representative; Rafael Anchia, Member of the Texas House of Representatives for the 103rd District; and Dallas ISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa.

Each year the organization recognizes individuals who have made a lasting impact on literacy in North Texas. Past honorees included Commit CEO Todd Williams; Krys Boyd, host of Think on KERA; and long-time Aberg Center advocate George Macatee.

The highlight of each event is the student speakers who present about their experiences furthering their education and share the impact that experience has had on their lives and their family.

After a two-year hiatus, the Legacy of Literacy Breakfast is returning on October 27, 2022! Chaired by Kim and Maury Purnell, this event will be an excellent opportunity for us to come together to listen, learn, and embrace how the mission of Aspire impacts the community.
