Growing Through Program Expansion
Last year we engaged national nonprofit consulting firm, La Piana Consulting, to identify our strategic goals for the next three years. One key goal is to concentrate our program strategy on nimble growth opportunities that meet students where they are. While we’ve met the majority of our adult literacy students where they now prefer classes—online—we knew it was also important to broaden our physical locations, especially for adults who struggle with transportation.
Our goal is to locate literacy programs in neighborhoods accessible to those who are most in need of our programs. Using United Way of Metropolitan Dallas’ data and goals as a guideline, our plan covers Dallas and Collin counties. We began in-person classes in February at Frazier House in south Dallas and Brother Bill’s Helping Hand in west Dallas. In June we will start English as a Second Language classes at the Storehouse of Collin County. This fall we plan to hold in-person classes at Owenwood Farm and Neighbor Space and a new location in Irving.
We provide transportation to our popular forklift and logistics training programs located at our partner ReadyToWork’s warehouse location. These free three-day classes allow an adult to immediately access numerous living wage positions (https://www.aspiretolearn.org/workforce).
And this fall we’re expanding our online presence with new tools, videos, and materials to help adults navigate career interests and plan their futures. We’re also augmenting our Early Childhood Education offerings with online tips and literacy exercises for parents to do with their children at home.
Stay tuned as we continue to create the space and relationships to learn about each person we serve.
