Cassy Lujan HeadshotMEET THE ASPIRE TEAM

At Aspire we value all our team members. Our staff comes to Aspire with a desire to serve our students and are dedicated to the organization’s mission. They are focused on walking alongside our students from the beginning of their journey to the end. This month we meet Cassy Lujan who joined Aspire in August 2021 as our Volunteer Director.

Name: Cassandra (Cassy) Lujan

Position at Aspire: Volunteer Director

  • What is your background? Family growing up. Where are you from? Have you lived in different cities?

I was born and raised in El Paso, TX by my first-generation immigrant grandparents (maternal). My family came from the states of Chihuahua and Zacatecas Mexico with a Nahua (Otomi). At age 14 I moved in with my mother in small-town Bessemer, MI, where I completed high school. By then my older sister and aunt moved to Dallas for better job opportunities, so I moved to Dallas immediately after graduating.

  • Growing up, what did you do for fun, hobbies? Do you have any hobbies now?

As a child, I enjoyed arts and crafts. As an adult, I enjoy graphic design, drawing, painting, pottery, embroidery, and crocheting. I also like to play bass and I’m currently trying to learn classic acoustic guitar.

  • Did you go to university or college? Field of study?

I’m currently enrolled in Dallas College to pursue a degree in Archaeology/Cultural Anthropology.

  • What were you like as a student?

I was in the NJHS through middle school. I think moving to Michigan was a big culture shock for me as a Mexican American teenager from the city, but I was still a good student.

  • What was your first job? Other jobs, current or past?

My first job was at a seasonal wreath company called Rose Wreath, for extra money during the holiday season. I also worked at McDonald’s.
